Yakuza Series Returns to Sega Genesis Roots in Upcoming Hawaii-Set Spin-Off

Return to the Genesis Era

Ryu ga Gotoku Studio is set to release a new spin-off in the long-running Yakuza series, Yakuza: Like a Dragon Ishin! The game will be a prequel to the main series and will be set in 1860s Japan. Players will take on the role of Sakamoto Ryoma, a legendary samurai who fought against the shogunate during the Bakumatsu period.

Like a Dragon Ishin! will be a major departure from the main Yakuza series, as it will be set in the past and will feature a more traditional samurai combat system. The game will also be the first in the series to be released on the Sega Genesis.

No More Modern Setting

The Yakuza series has been known for its modern setting and its focus on the criminal underworld of Japan. However, Like a Dragon Ishin! will take players back to the series' roots, as it will be set in the same time period as the original Yakuza game.
