Laliga Hoy: The Weekly Roundup of Spanish Football

What Happened This Week?

This week in La Liga, Real Madrid continued their impressive start to the season with a 2-0 win over Valencia. Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr. scored the goals for Los Blancos, who now have a three-point lead at the top of the table.

Barcelona, meanwhile, dropped points for the second time this season as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Sevilla. Ronald Araujo gave the Blaugrana the lead, but Erik Lamela equalized for Sevilla in the second half.

Elsewhere, Atletico Madrid beat Getafe 3-0, Real Betis drew 0-0 with Espanyol, and Real Sociedad lost 2-1 to Celta Vigo.

The Title Race

Real Madrid's win over Valencia means that they are now the clear favorites to win the La Liga title. Los Blancos have won six of their seven games so far this season and have yet to concede a goal.

Barcelona are three points behind Real Madrid in second place, but they have played one game more. The Blaugrana have been impressive in attack this season, but they have been vulnerable at the back.

Atletico Madrid are a further three points behind Barcelona in third place. Diego Simeone's side have been solid defensively this season, but they have struggled to score goals.

The European Races

Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid are all in contention for a place in next season's Champions League. Real Madrid are currently in the driving seat, but Barcelona and Atletico Madrid will be hoping to close the gap in the coming weeks.

Real Betis and Real Sociedad are also in the running for a place in Europe. Betis are currently fifth in the table, while Real Sociedad are sixth.

The Relegation Battle

Getafe, Cadiz, and Elche are all in danger of being relegated to the Segunda Division. Getafe have lost five of their first seven games this season, while Cadiz and Elche have both won just one game.

Mallorca, Espanyol, and Osasuna are also in the relegation zone, but they have all shown signs of improvement in recent weeks.
