Manila Submerged as Monsoon Rains Ravage Country

Massive Storm Kills 21, Leaves Many Trapped

Much of the Philippine capital, Manila, remained underwater on Thursday as deadly Typhoon Gaemi exacerbated torrential monsoon rains that lashed the country, trapping residents and causing widespread devastation.

The typhoon, with winds of 100 mph, made landfall in the Philippines on Wednesday morning, bringing heavy rain that inundated much of the country. Gaemi did not make landfall in Taiwan, but its powerful winds enhanced the seasonal monsoon rains, leading to catastrophic flooding.

In Manila, streets and homes were submerged in floodwaters, leaving residents stranded and unable to escape. At least 21 people have been killed in the landslides and flooding caused by the typhoon.

The storm has also taken a heavy toll on China, where it made landfall on Thursday. Heavy rain and strong winds have caused flooding and damage in coastal areas.

Typhoon Gaemi is a reminder of the devastating impact that natural disasters can have on communities around the world. As climate change continues to fuel more extreme weather events, it is crucial for governments and individuals to invest in disaster preparation and response.
