How to Remove Acrylic Nails Safely and Effectively
Step-by-Step Guide
Materials:
- Nail file with 100/80 grit
- Nail buffer
- Acetone-based nail polish remover or acetone
- Cotton balls or pads
- Aluminum foil or nail clips
Instructions:
- Trim down the acrylic nails: Use nail clippers to shorten the acrylics as much as possible.
- File the acrylic surface: Use the 100 grit side of the nail file to file off the top layer of acrylic.
- Soak nails in acetone: Pour acetone into a shallow dish and soak your nails for 15-30 minutes.
- Use cotton balls and foil: Soak cotton balls in acetone and place them on top of the acrylic nails. Wrap your fingers in aluminum foil or use nail clips to hold them in place.
- Wait for the acetone to dissolve the acrylic: Depending on the thickness of the acrylic, it may take up to 2 hours for the acetone to fully dissolve it.
- Gently push off the acrylic: Once the acrylic has softened, use an orange stick or metal cuticle pusher to gently push off the remaining acrylic from your natural nails.
- Buff and shape your nails: Use the 80 grit side of the nail file to smooth out the edges of your natural nails and shape them as desired.
Tips:
- Do not use acetone on your bare nails for an extended period as it can cause damage.
- Be patient and allow the acetone to do its job to avoid damaging your natural nails.
- If you experience any irritation or discomfort, stop the process and consult a professional manicurist.
